Blog Post #1 Pre-Project

Since my attendance at the Hawken Lower School, I have had a passion for our natural world and the resources that power nations. At the lower school, I was an enthusiastic member of the Energy Team, a club dedicated to learning about the importance of  renewable energy and spreading awareness in our community. I remember visiting the science museum, seeing the large wind turbines and feeling overwhelmed with shock and awe at how impress a spectacle they are, although, due to the aged model, the turbines only generate 7% of the center’s energy. From that moment onwards, my interest in renewable resources continued to grow. I began to practice collecting rain water to feed plants at home, and installed a compost pit behind our chicken coop. Now, as I am leaving Hawken I want to have a lasting contribution that other students will benefit and learn from. The essential question we search to answer is: how mechanically and cost effective can we make the wind turbine while remaining confident in its ability to remain at Hawken serving as an education tool and renewable energy source.

  3. I love your video blogs! I also enjoy your reflections. Your candor about missteps reveals an ability to grow from them. I also think you've learned a lot about the technology behind this even if it didn't always work out.
